Appropriate candidates for Philips Academy exhibit the following characteristics:
Diagnosis of cognitive delay or developmental disability (low to low-average IQ)
No history of significant behavioral or psychological disorders
Basic verbal skills or ability to use alternate communication device or strategy independently
Ability to work within a small group and to transition between school and community activities
Motivated to work hard towards a goal of independence
Family network committed to working with the school

A student visit and placement assessment will be scheduled after the application has been reviewed.

Tuition Information

Tuition to Philips Academy is $22,240 for Middle and High School students. The Post-Secondary Bridges program for young adults has a half day option starting at $10,600.

Payment plans, scholarships and discounts are available. Limited need-based financial aid is available. Eligibility is determined by the FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment Program. Financial aid applications are available online at

Open Houses

Philips Academy offers open houses for prospective families in November, January, and March. These events allow you to drop-in to tour the campus, meet the teachers, and talk with current parents.

Admissions Open House Dates:

Thursday, January 19, 10:00-1:00. We will also be hosting a Parent Workshop on the NC Grants with PEFNC at 9:00am.

Tuesday, March 21st, 10:00-12:00. We will also be hosting a Parent Workshop with A Special Needs Plan at 9:00 am.
